Melammu

Our Story Melammu means divine light- historically also referring to the luminous cloaks of the Gods. As an artist and lover of nature who had previously worked in roles that often surpressed creativity, Melammu was born after a spiritual awakening whereby expressing my creativity became paramount. I do this through designing wearable art that is sustainable, being 'made to order' only. Melammu print often begins in the real world — a leaf I picked on an early morning walk, an orchid I photographed close up, clouds that stop me mid-walk. From there I may take the leaf and turn it into spray art, using photographs to create a kaleidoscopic fabric design, digitally manipulate the photography to create bold floral motifs - sometimes combining them both on one piece. A lot of the botanical work I use, frangipani, roses, orchids — all trace back to things I have photographed first. I also use symbolic concepts, like pegasus imagery, the 'create your reality' rainbow writing parallelograms or written in black on white ribbon triangles to communicate the power of building our own creativity. I enjoy using both geometry and artistic colour and effects to embrace both order and chaos - co-existing in balance. Importantly, there are no rules constraining my creative concepts. Even the Melammu logo started as calligraphy, drawn freehand with ink pens. Every piece is meant to feel less like clothing, more like wearing a piece of art or philosophy such as my 'Create Your Reality'. Every piece is made especially for you, which means nothing is wasted and the creative range can be as wide as the imagination allows. Some designs may become well-worn favourites.
